and, i was really excited that i finally got to meet everyone in the band.
anyway, a more detailed review and complete setlist will come tomorrow.
until tomorrow when i'm more rested... adios.
sorry for not having time to write an adequate review of the whole show last night...
so, i thought i'd try to make it up to you:
1.Been Around The World (david broke a string!) 2.Seven Days 3.I See The Light 4.Euro-Trash Girl 5.Wedding Day 6.I Ride My Bike 7.Take Me Down To The Infirmary 8.("Radio Hits" Jam) 9.Teen Angst 10.Pictures Of Matchstick Men 11.Big Dipper 12.Lonesome Johnny Blues 13.Dr. Bernice (with intro) 14.Mr. Wrong ("No Encore" explanation) 15.St. Cajetan 16.Low 17.Trials And Tribulationswhen we arrived, we were the first 4 people thru the door. so, we walked over to the bar, got some beers, and were just hanging out. then i noticed that none other than johnny hickman was walking right up to the bar right next to us. i introduced myself and much to our surprise he kinda hung with us for about 15 or 20 minutes! he told a really hilarious story of him getting the band kicked off the Cranberries tour in 96. (i'll tell ya later...)
the really cool thing about this show was that at least up until "teen angst", it was essentially 'Cracker All-Request Night'. i don't know if they've been doing this lately at other shows... what made it even cooler was that i was directly under David right up against the stage with about 5 friends of mine...which resulted in David hearing damn near everything we requested. thus, we were pretty much responsible for at least 5 or 6 songs. it was like having our own Cracker jukebox...only it was the real band!
like i mentioned in the last post, the big surprise of the night was "wedding day" with johnny and brandy both on acoustic guitar. really cool. especially since johnny told me later that he had taught her the song only 20 minutes before the show. her voice and her playing really impressed me alot. and, she's very down to earth and really cool to talk to. a welcome addition to the band, if you ask me.
the "radio hits jam" was hilarious. david told the crowd that it was time they played their big radio hit...if the crowd could tell him what it was. he let people scream for "Low" for about a minute and then started teasing them. frank and johnny would start playing other song (such as aerosmith's "walk this way") and david would ask "is that the one?". this of course made the crowd scream for "low" even more. so, after a couple of these fake songs, david said that they were actually thinking of another radio hit...and broke into "teen angst".
after teen angst, he did the same thing again. immediately, someone screamed "low" really loud and he just said "no, that would be too obvious". so, they did "pictures of matchstick men". after that, he said he would play "low"...later.
the rest of the set was amazing too. especially the awesome version of "dr. bernice". they played this almost flamenco style extended intro that had all of us pretty confused. i was shocked when they then broke into "dr. bernice"...which i really didn't expect at all. what an amazing song.
like other recent shows, they had to be done by a certain time...so they didn't do the traditional encore. instead they just kept playing. it was kinda funny to see david keep checking his watch after each of the last 3 or 4 songs.
after the show, i was fortunate enough to meet the rest of the band (including being able to talk to johnny for a while again).
i must say that this show easily jumps to my favorite show i've ever seen. phenomenal music, energy, etc.... and a really great group of people in general.
thanks: david, johnny, frank, kenny, and brandy. i appreciate it.
